Fight Seasonal Sneeze, Naturally

Guest Blog Writer: Author Gwen Lawrence BS LMT Eryt-500

This is the time of year when we inevitably find ourselves vulnerable to colds, sniffles, and seasonal allergies.  A study by the National Institute of Health concurs with findings parallel to the effectiveness of certain oils against allergic rhinitis.

Aromatherapy, utilizing oils through the nasal cavity through direct inhalation, has been used for many years to fight inflammatory diseases.

Oils like:

  • Eucalyptus

  • Ravensara

  • Sandalwood

  • Frankincense

These specific oils can relieve stuffy/runny nose, sneezing, and itchy noses.  This type of relief is not only effective but also convenient and portable. Unlike over-the-counter meds, there are no side effects that can interfere with your daily routine.  You can make simple inhalants, as I explain in detail in chapter six of my new book, Self-Care is Essential, a personal resiliency program for healthcare professionals, first responders, and caregivers.

You can also find oils for many other ailments, such as anxiety, sleeping problems, and immunity boosters.  You can buy quality oils; I buy them on Aromatics International’s website or Mountain Rose Herbs to ensure I am getting quality.  Cheaper oils are not better, and they can hide toxins.  Once you purchase some delicious scents, you can simply sprinkle a few drops on a cotton ball and sniff or assemble an inhaler.  Buy some inhaler blanks and easily assemble custom inhalers for your personal needs. Make a few and share them with all your co-workers.  This allergy season, we do not have to be vulnerable; we can be proactive in our health instead of reactive to illness.
