2024 CODE YOU Annual Update:

A Letter Co-Executive Directors, Phyllis and Tamara

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we reflect on the journey of 2024, we are filled with immense gratitude and pride for the progress CODE YOU has made. This year has been one of transformation, connection, and growth, all centered around our shared mission: to resuscitate and strengthen the heart and soul of nursing.

When we began this work, our vision was clear— a wholistically healthy healthcare system where providers thrive and communities flourish. As co-executive directors, we are humbled to see this vision come to life through the incredible impact of CODE YOU.

Highlights of 2024

This year, our programs reached new heights. At the Texas Nurses Association (TNA) Annual Meeting in June, we were honored to present our research on the CODE YOU Wholistic Leadership Course. Sharing the transformative power of this work with our peers was a deeply validating experience, further amplified by our articles in the TNA e-magazine and the prestigious Texas Nurses Magazine. Our article, "From CODE BLUE to CODE YOU: A Rapid Response to Your Team’s Well-Being," underscored the urgent need for compassion-focused care in healthcare and offered practical solutions to foster resilience in nursing teams.

Our retreats continue to be the heart of what we do. In 2024, 59 nurses attended our full "Restore Your Heart and Soul" retreats, and an additional 64 participated in partial programs tailored to their demanding schedules. These retreats are more than just events—they are spaces of renewal and reflection that remind nurses of their strength, resilience, and purpose.

The feedback we receive keeps us inspired. Hearing that 89% of our leadership course participants are still using the techniques they learned and seeing the reduction in compassion fatigue from 56% to 11% post-retreat affirms the lasting impact of our work.

Building a Community of Care

This year also marked a deepening of relationships. Our partnerships with Methodist Healthcare, Alamo Colleges, and other organizations have been instrumental in expanding our reach. Together, we’ve created brave healing spaces, fostered resilience, and supported nurses at every stage of their careers.

We were especially moved when three of our alumni returned as volunteers to lead retreats. Witnessing their journey from participants to leaders was a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of this work.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As we prepare for 2025, we are thrilled to share our plans for growth and innovation:

  • Expanded Leadership Training: We’ll offer two open cohorts and a private course, each designed to equip nurses with the tools for sustainable leadership and care.

  • More Retreats: With six retreats on the calendar, including virtual options, we’ll ensure even more nurses can access the healing and renewal they deserve.

  • Groundbreaking Research: Our new study on the impact of retreats on new nurses will help us deepen our understanding of well-being, resilience, and job satisfaction.

Beyond these initiatives, we will continue our monthly soul care gatherings, strengthen our partnerships, and share what we have learned through publications in nursing and spiritual care journals.

Thank You for Supporting CODE YOU

Every story we’ve heard, every connection we’ve made, and every transformation we’ve witnessed this year has been made possible because of your belief in our mission. Together, we’re not just addressing burnout—we’re changing the culture of healthcare to one that values wholistic well-being.

As we step into 2025, we invite you to join us in creating a world where nurses thrive in body, mind, and spirit. Thank you for being part of our journey.

With gratitude and hope,

Phyllis & TamaraCo-Executive Directors, CODE YOU
